How to Prepare for the Audition:

All TWO-OCTAVE SCALE OF CHOICE

Show off technique abilities, including playing legato, producing a beautiful tone, tonguing, and articulating notes.
Play the scale ascending one way and descending a different way.

ONE MINUTE EXCERPT FROM A PERFORMANCE PIECE OF CHOICE

SIGHT-READ A MUSIC EXCERPT THAT WILL BE PROVIDED IN THE AUDITION

TIPS BEFORE THE AUDITION
- Review key signatures and time signatures.
- Practice getting nervous by playing in front of your teacher, family members, friends, or total strangers.
TIPS AT THE AUDITION
- Before you play the excerpt in the audition, scan the music for key signature, tempo markings, rhythms, bowing, articulations, accidentals, etc.
- Look for changes to the key signature or time signature in the middle of a selection.
- Accuracy is more important than speed.
- COUNT! Keep a steady beat.
